Paper grid cut yield calculator

Compare two straight grid orientations when cutting cards, inserts or zine covers from a sheet.

How the calculation works

Columns = floor((sheet width + gap) ÷ (piece width + gap)); rows use the same rule. Compare a 90° rotation.

Before you use the result

Tests two uniform grids only. Mixed orientations may yield more. Gap is between pieces, with no extra outer margin; include bleed in the piece size.

A worked example

Sheet width (mm): 420 · Sheet height (mm): 297 · Piece width (mm): 100 · Piece height (mm): 140 · Gap between pieces (mm): 3.

Results display up to three decimal places. Rounding happens only for display, except where the method explicitly counts whole items.
